While living in France (and specifically Paris), one can easily develop a strong interest in the french culture and history. Always being a cheese lover, it wasn't long before I was eagerly stalking the cheese aisle at the Auchamps. Also, being a history major, it awakened a keen interest in the history of the many traditional cheeses.
However, it was only when my flatmate Laura and I discovered that there were 350-400 traditional types of cheese that we felt the need to make it competitive. We decided to make a goal to try at least 350 types of traditional cheese before our returns back to Canada, in approximately six months.
It was only this past month that we were introduced to the resource to obtain our goal, while also receiving historical and cultural information on each kind of cheese. This resource: a local fromagerie in Gambetta. It was introduced to us by a fabulous nameless woman that we met in the Auchamps as we were waiting eagerly for our cheese to be cut. Since the fromagiere didn't even know the name of the cheeses that she was cutting, we realized that we wanted and needed more in our small and contained cheesy life. At this fromagerie in Gambetta, we receive guidance and knowledge! Finally we realized that the best way to share this information and news on our challenge was to blog about it. Very a la Julie and Julia... with less meaty details but enough fun facts to keep your brain and stomach just as satisfied!
We hope that this blog provides all of the information that any cheese lover could want.. and maybe a little more.
Enjoy.
Cordiallement et a bientot,
Megan and Laura.
